EARTHQUAKE EMERGENCY IN YUSHU TIBETAN AUTONOMOUS PREFECTURE
A violent earthquake struck, Wednesday, April 14th, the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu, 90% inhabited by Tibetans.

ASIA, engaged for many years in emergency projects in aid of people struck by natural calamities in Asia, is making its experience and solidarity available to the people severely struck down by the earthquake in Abruzzo in Italy.

| | | | * The Tibetan Elementary School in the Village of Derge
The city of Derge, seat of the Derge Parkhang, one of the most important and ancient printing house in the entire Tibet, is located in the Prefecture of Ganze, Tibetan Region of Kham (current chinese province of Sichuan).
Due to very high cost, and lack of scholastic infrastructures, most nomadic families in this region do not have access to education.
ASIA, in this area since 1993, having verified the difficulties of the situation, promised its help to the local population, pledging to build an elementary school for the children of Derge.
The new scholastic structure, built with bioclimatic technologies, will be able to house 200 children, guaranteeing a basic education regardful of their cultural roots and more dignified living conditions. >> Go to the project's card |
| | | | * Establishment of medical personnel and improvement of access to health services in the County of Panam
In the County of Panam - Prefecture of Shigatze, Tibet Autonomous Region, the population sanitary conditions are among the worst in the entire China. The difficult climatic conditions, the malnutrition, the low education level, the lacking but expensive health services all put daily at risk the health of the local population.
This project, cofounded with the European Community, aims at improving the quality of health services provided by the public service thru a program to establish and capacity build medical personnel and personnel in charge of the management of sanitary structures. >> Go to the project's card
|  | | | | * The Fire at Galingteng College
GalingTeng Monastery is considered one of the most important Tibetan cultural centres in East Tibet and is particularly meaningful to Chögyal Namkhai Norbu and his son Yeshi Silvano Namkhai.On 9 February 2009 a fire broke out after 10 o’clock in the evening, when the monks had all assembled in the temple for their evening practice led by Khempo Tashi Choepel. It blazed through the new part of the College. Some of the old rooms of the College were also destroyed, that were blasted with dynamite to stop the fire spreading throughout the College. Reconstruction of the College is very important, above all at such a difficult time when the very survival of the culture of the Tibetan people is seriously at risk..
