WHERE

Nepal – Rasuwa District and Kathmandu

CONTEXT

On 26 August 2026, a major flood struck Rasuwa District in northern Nepal, causing displacement and severe damage to homes, roads, bridges and other essential infrastructure. Among those affected are families from Gosaikunda and Uttargaya Rural Municipalities, some of whom were forced to move to Kathmandu and are temporarily being hosted in religious and community facilities in the Swayambhunath and Balaju areas. Many arrived with very few personal belongings and need essential items to ensure minimum standards of safety, dignity and comfort. The project will provide initial support through the distribution of 400 blankets and 400 sleeping mattresses, accompanied by an assessment of the needs of Tibetan communities affected by the flood and the subsequent definition of further humanitarian assistance interventions based on the priority needs identified.

OBJECTIVES

General objective:

To contribute to protecting the health, dignity and basic living conditions of people affected and displaced by the 2026 Rasuwa floods, with particular attention to vulnerable communities facing gaps in access to humanitarian assistance.

Specific objectives:

To provide immediate assistance through essential non-food items to people displaced by the Rasuwa flood and temporarily hosted in Kathmandu,

To identify and assess the priority humanitarian needs of Tibetan refugee communities and displaced people affected by the flood and facilitate a targeted response to the identified gaps.

ACTIVITIES

  •  Immediate distribution of essential non-food items.
  • Targeted needs assessment of affected Tibetan communities.
  • Targeted humanitarian assistance based on identified needs.

  • People displaced by the flood and temporarily hosted in Kathmandu have improved access to blankets, sleeping mattresses and essential non-food items.
  •  Priority needs, assistance already available and gaps in the humanitarian response affecting Tibetan refugee communities and displaced people are identified and documented.
