Nepal – Rasuwa District and Kathmandu
CONTEXT
On 26 August 2026, a violent flood hit Rasuwa District, in northern Nepal, destroying homes, schools, infrastructure and agricultural land. Around 1,500 homes were destroyed, leaving between 6,000 and 7,500 people homeless, while thousands of families lost assets and livelihoods and many were forced to flee, including to Kathmandu. ASIA, present in Rasuwa since the 2015 earthquake, will intervene together with its local partner PIPAL to accompany families from the initial emergency towards a gradual recovery. The project foresees the construction of safe temporary housing solutions, support for the resumption of agricultural and livestock activities, psychosocial support and protection interventions for the most vulnerable people, and educational and recreational activities for children affected by the emergency, both in Rasuwa and in reception sites in Kathmandu.
OBJECTIVES
General objective:
To contribute to the recovery and stabilization of the living conditions of the communities of Rasuwa affected by the flood of 26 August 2026, accompanying the most vulnerable families in the transition from initial emergency assistance towards conditions of greater safety, autonomy and well-being.
Specific objectives:
To improve the housing conditions and recovery capacity of families who have lost their homes and livelihoods, ensuring safe temporary housing solutions and supporting the resumption of agricultural and livestock activities.
To improve the well-being and recovery capacity of children, adults and the most vulnerable people affected by the flood, through psychosocial support, community-based protection mechanisms and activities aimed at promoting educational continuity and a return to everyday life.
ACTIVITIES
- Selection of families, verification of sites and definition of agreements for land use.
- Design, procurement, construction and installation of temporary housing solutions.
- Targeted support for the resumption of agricultural and livestock activities.
- Establishment of the psychosocial support system and training of the community network.
- Direct psychosocial support and assistance to the most exposed people in Rasuwa and Kathmandu.
- Educational, recreational and protection activities for displaced children or children whose education has been interrupted
RESULTS
- The selected families have access to safe temporary accommodation and are able to resume essential productive activities.
- Children and adults affected by the flood have access to a culturally appropriate psychosocial support system, protection mechanisms and regular educational activities.
BENEFICIARIES
Direct beneficiaries: The number of direct beneficiaries will be established during the first months based on the families registered, the sites approved and the verified unit costs of the housing solutions.
Indirect beneficiaries: Family members of the people supported, host communities, school communities and the population of the sites where services and support networks will be activated
