Nepal – Rasuwa District
CONTEXT
The recent floods in Nepal have severely affected communities in Rasuwa District, damaging homes, infrastructure and essential services and disrupting normal living conditions. The education sector has also been affected: damage to school facilities and their reduced accessibility limit the ability of children in the affected communities to continue their education in safe and adequate conditions. The project will therefore support the construction of two Temporary Learning Schools (TLS) in Rasuwa District, designed as modular learning spaces, and will provide the essential educational and school materials needed to make them operational as quickly as possible.
OBJECTIVES
General objective:
To restore access to safe and adequate learning spaces for children affected by the floods in Rasuwa District through the construction of two Temporary Learning Schools (TLS) and the provision of essential educational materials.
Specific objectives:
To ensure that children affected by the floods can resume learning as quickly as possible in safe, adequate and environmentally sustainable spaces, while keeping the intervention sufficiently flexible to respond to evolving needs and operational conditions in Rasuwa District.
ACTIVITIES
- Construction of two Temporary Learning Schools (TLS) in Rasuwa District.
- Provision of essential educational and school materials.
RESULTS
- Two Temporary Learning Schools constructed in Rasuwa District and equipped with the necessary learning spaces.
- The new learning spaces are equipped with essential educational and school materials and made operational.
- Children from flood-affected communities are able to resume educational activities in safe and adequate spaces,
BENEFICIARIES
Direct beneficiaries: Children from flood-affected school communities in Rasuwa District. As each classroom will be able to accommodate approximately 20 students, the final number of direct beneficiaries will depend on the number of classrooms constructed following the needs assessment and the technical definition of the two TLS.
Indirect beneficiaries: Teachers, students’ families and the wider communities, who will benefit from the restoration of educational continuity and safer learning conditions.
